On Thursday we discussed the concepts of ethos, logos, and pathos and saw a PowerPoint.
HW due Tues. Jan 31: Using the Mars article, read and annotate a second time using the organizer I gave you in class. Be sure to look for examples of ethos, pathos, and logos.

On Tuesday we received our books. We also saw PowerPoints on both Orwell and Wells. We learned about the political climate at the time both books were written, and how they are allegories for totalitarianism (Animal Farm) and British imperialism (The War of the Worlds).
HW due Thursday:
Read Animal Farm chapter 1 (9th) and The War of the Worlds Chs. 1-2 (10th). You will have a quiz every Thursday on the assigned reading from Tuesday. Spelling Power 15-16.

We begin our discussion of the argumentative essay.

No school Friday, February 17 and Monday, February 20 (Presidents' Day - 4-day weekend!)

This week we continued discussing possible topics for our argumentative essay. We discussed how to provide a proper refutation of an argument and we looked at various examples of pro/con topics. We practiced limiting our focus to one topic.
